According to a statement issued by ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the operations were conducted between June 11 and 12, 2025, and focused on dismantling networks of drug users and petty criminals operating in known black spots.
The joint operations were carried out by the Uganda Police Force, Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), and Crime Intelligence Units, in coordination with local authorities and community leaders.
On June 11, police stormed areas of Najjera, Bulindo, and Shimon in Kira Division, arresting 30 individuals suspected of abusing opium and marijuana. The suspects were reportedly picked from ghettos linked to robberies and house break-ins. Narcotic substances were recovered at the scene. All detainees are currently being held at Kira Police Station for screening and further investigation.
Later that night, security forces combed through crime hotspots in the city center, including William Street, Wilson Road, Top Pub, Nakasero, the Old Taxi Park, Cooper Complex, and Shoprite. A total of 60 male adults were arrested during the operation, many of whom were reportedly caught red-handed engaging in drug use and petty theft. The suspects are being held at Central Police Station (CPS) Kampala.
On June 12, another raid in Kiwala Village, Nama Sub-County in Mukono District, led to the arrest of nine suspects. Police say the group was found hiding in criminal dens, with some in possession of opium. They are suspected of involvement in recent robberies in the area. All nine are currently detained at Mukono Police Station and are expected to be charged in court.
ASP Owoyesigyire emphasized that such intelligence-led operations are part of ongoing efforts to curb rising urban crime and drug abuse.

“Kampala Metropolitan Police remains committed to ridding urban centers of criminal elements,” he said. “We urge the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police post.”
The operations come at a time when police have intensified crackdowns on narcotics and urban insecurity in the lead-up to national events and political activities. Authorities have hinted at more security deployments in areas flagged for persistent criminal behavior.
