Police Arrest Eight in Shs242m Old Kampala Robbery, Recover Half of Stolen Cash

Police in Old Kampala Division have made a breakthrough in the investigation of a violent aggravated robbery in which armed thugs made off with Shs242 million late last month.

The incident, which happened on August 22, 2025, at Kakeka Zone, Rubaga Division, saw a group of machete-wielding assailants riding on five motorcycles ambush Mr. Kisitu Ausi, an accountant with Give and Take Hardware, as he transported company money to the bank. Although the attackers escaped with the funds, neither Kisitu nor his boda rider was injured.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy PRO ASP Luke Owoyesigyire said a series of intelligence-led operations, aided by CCTV footage, led to multiple arrests. So far, eight suspects have been charged, including:

  • Bakunda Steven alias Kevin
  • Atwine Robert Kiiza alias Mzee Lubuto
  • Andebuni Brian alias Junior Black
  • Musuza Raymond alias Caesar
  • Ssali Andrew alias Ande Swag
  • Kanyerezi Stanley
  • Nsubuga Andrew
  • Aboth Shivan Alecho (charged as an accessory after the fact)

During the crackdown, police recovered Shs105 million, a motorcycle reportedly bought using the robbery proceeds, and a black laptop bag containing vouchers and receipts belonging to Give and Take Hardware. The complainant positively identified the exhibits.

The suspects face charges of Aggravated Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, and Being Accessories After the Fact to a Felony. They were expected to appear before Mwanga II Chief Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, September 11, 2025.

Owoyesigyire noted that some accomplices are still at large but vowed they will be pursued. “We reassure the public that such violent crimes will be pursued to their full conclusion, and we commend our officers for the dedicated work that has already yielded results,” he said.
