By Kampala Metropolitan Police have arrested 70 men during an overnight operation targeting suspected criminals in crime-prone areas of the city, as security agencies intensify efforts to ensure public safety during the festive season.
According to police, the operation was conducted in the early hours of December 20, 2025, beginning shortly after midnight and focusing on known crime black spots within Kampala Metropolitan South Police Region. Authorities said the targeted areas are commonly used by individuals who lie in wait to rob unsuspecting members of the public.

Preliminary police findings indicate that most of the suspects are known to law enforcement and were already being sought by different police stations in connection with various criminal activities.
The suspects were detained at Central Police Station (CPS) Kampala and are awaiting formal charges in court, in line with legal procedures.
Kampala Metropolitan Police said the operation is part of ongoing preventive and intelligence-led efforts to curb crime as the city experiences increased movement and commercial activity during the festive period.
In a statement, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, reaffirmed the police force’s commitment to maintaining law and order and assured the public that similar operations will continue in order to guarantee a peaceful and crime-free festive season.
Police also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activity through established police channels.
