Over 1,500 founding member representatives of the newly registered People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) will gather on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Katonga Road in Kampala for the party’s inaugural national convention, drawn from the more than 6,000 individuals who endorsed the party’s formation.
The event marks the formal entry of PFF into Uganda’s political landscape and will feature the unveiling of interim leadership, the announcement of the party’s strategic programme, and a reaffirmation of its commitment to democratic transition.

Addressing journalists ahead of the convention, senior opposition figure Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda said the gathering will be overseen by the Council of Founders, led by former Leader of Opposition Hon. Wafula Oguttu. The council will formally propose names for interim party leaders, who will steer the PFF until internal elections are held.
“Internal elections couldn’t be conducted due to the ongoing national electoral processes, but once they conclude, we shall begin grassroots organisation and elect our leaders,” Ssemujju said.
He further stressed that the party’s programme would outline not only its electoral strategy but also its response to any potential electoral malpractice, drawing on Uganda’s constitutional provisions.
“If Museveni rigs this election again, like he has done before, we will mobilise the country under Article 3 of the Constitution. We won’t take up arms, but we will assert our right to resist unconstitutional rule,” he added.
Ingrid Turinawe, another key figure in the PFF, described the convention as a milestone for all founding members. “Those who signed the registration forms are no longer just promoters they are now official founders of this party,” she said.
Turinawe explained that the convention will include members who previously held public office and were legally barred from endorsing the registration. “Now that the party is registered, we welcome them officially into the movement,” she said.
The PFF has also signed a cooperation agreement with the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) to work together during and beyond elections. The party leadership clarified that the agreement is not exclusive and remains open to collaboration with other political and civic actors.

“This is a call to all pro-democracy forces political parties, civil society, religious leaders, and the media,” Ssemujju noted. “The liberation of Uganda requires everyone. We have started the journey, and we invite all others to join or invite us.”
