“At the close of the second week of picking nomination forms for those who wish to contest for the position of president, the Electoral Commission has so far given out the forms and guidelines to 205 individuals. Out of these, 12 have picked on behalf of political parties. Today, the political party that picked is the Activist Party,” Mucunguzi told journalists.

He explained that all aspirants who have picked forms are now required to collect signatures of supporters from across the country. Each must obtain at least 100 signatures from two-thirds of Uganda’s districts, which translates to a minimum of 9,800 supporters from 98 districts.

“These lists of supporters must be returned to the Commission two weeks before nomination dates,” he said.

Mucunguzi reiterated that the nominations for President will take place on September 23 and 24, 2025. Aspirants who successfully return verified supporter lists will then proceed to nomination, where they must present proof of having paid the Shs20 million nomination fee, proof of A’ Level education or its equivalent, and other requirements set out in the guidelines.

The high number of individuals expressing interest reflects a growing wave of political activity ahead of the 2026 General Elections, with more political parties expected to join the race in the coming weeks.
