By Minister of Internal Affairs Maj Gen. Kahinda Otafiire has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abas Byakagaba to furnish him with a detailed report explaining the circumstances under which police raided the hotel where National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, was staying on Tuesday night.
Otafiire, who expressed displeasure over the incident, said he had earlier cautioned police against such actions that risk inflaming political tensions and violating the rights of candidates.

“I have instructed the Inspector General of Police to give me a full report on what exactly happened in Lira,” Otafiire said. “I had made it clear that such raids should not happen again, so I want to know under what authority this operation was conducted.”
The minister’s directive follows a reported clash at Tembo Trek Courts Hotel in Lira City, where security personnel allegedly surrounded the premises and arrested several members of Kyagulanyi’s campaign team.
During the confrontation, at least ten of his bodyguards and aides were reportedly taken into custody, though police have not issued an official explanation for the arrests.
Kyagulanyi, who was on campaign duty in the Lango sub-region, said the raid disrupted his team’s rest after a long day of rallies in Otuke and Alebtong districts.
The incident has drawn widespread attention, with human rights groups and opposition figures demanding an investigation into what they described as “a politically motivated act of intimidation.”
By press time, the Uganda Police Force had not released a formal statement regarding the reasons for the operation.
