Saudah Madada, a supporter of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has been nominated to contest as an independent candidate for the Kampala Central Lord Councillor seat after being denied the party ticket.
Madada, who submitted her nomination papers at the Electoral Commission offices in Ntinda, said she was persuaded by voters to stay in the race and that supporters even helped her collect the required signatures.

Despite breaking ranks to run as an independent, she stressed that her loyalty to NUP and its presidential flagbearer Robert Kyagulanyi remains intact.
“I am still committed to the struggle, and I stand firmly with NUP and Hon. Kyagulanyi. My decision is about serving the people who believe in me,” Madada told reporters after her nomination.
Her move underscores the growing tensions in candidate selections within the opposition party National Unity Platform as the 2026 general elections draw closer.
