The announcement was made by the chairperson of the party’s Election Management Committee, Harriet Chemutai, who expressed gratitude to the thousands of Ugandans who have shown interest in contesting for various political positions under the NUP banner.

“The Election Management Committee wishes to appreciate the thousands of Ugandans who have expressed interest in running for the various positions under the National Unity Platform,” Chemutai said. “While the numbers have been overwhelming, we have also received requests from many people who could not meet the earlier deadline for various reasons.”

She explained that among the key challenges faced by some aspirants were delays in the verification of academic documents by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) and the National Council for Higher Education.

“In light of this, we are extending the period for receiving expressions of interest at all points initially communicated to you, now until Friday, July 25,” she added.

The extended nomination window will run on weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at all designated submission points, including the party’s headquarters in Kamwokya.

Chemutai also appealed to aspirants intending to submit at the headquarters to limit the number of accompanying supporters. “Please do not come with more than 10 supporters as there will be other party activities ongoing,” she advised.

The nomination exercise was initially scheduled to close in mid-June but has now been extended by an additional month to accommodate pending applications.
