Ntoroko District has pledged full support towards sustaining the achievements of the Local Economic Growth Support (LEGS) Project, implemented by the Ministry of Local Government with funding from the Lives and Livelihoods Fund (LLF), the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), and the Government of Uganda.
The commitment was made during the ongoing LEGS Supervision Mission, a formal review exercise assessing the project’s progress, capturing lessons learned, and identifying strategies for a smooth and structured closure.

Speaking during the mission, Mr. Agum Moses, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Ntoroko District, assured the visiting delegation that the district leadership is committed to sustaining the gains made under the project. He highlighted in particular the community access roads that have improved connectivity, boosted local trade, and enhanced access to markets and services.
“The district is determined to build on what has been achieved under LEGS. The improved roads have opened up our rural areas and stimulated trade among smallholder farmers and traders,” Mr. Agum said.
The mission, led by Dr. Mouchili Mayoua, the Country Operations Manager at the Islamic Development Bank, visited several project sites in the district. Among them was the Kimara Valley Dam, a 6,000-cubic-metre water reservoir that serves more than 250 households and 5,000 heads of cattle, addressing long-standing water shortages in the area.
The team also inspected the Butungama Livestock Market and the Karugutu Sub-county Women’s SACCO, which benefited from an agro-processing facility equipped with maize and rice milling machinery to promote value addition and income generation for women entrepreneurs.
Dr. Mayoua commended Ntoroko for effectively implementing project activities and assured the district of continued support through the forthcoming LEGS Phase II, which will expand interventions to 55 districts across Uganda.
He noted that the next phase will build on the successes of LEGS I, strengthening local economic growth, value chain development, and resilience among rural communities.
