NRM Disputes Tribunal to Hear 381 Petitions Starting July 29

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Election Disputes Tribunal has announced that it will begin hearing petitions arising from last week’s party primaries on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at its headquarters on Plot 30, Kyadondo Road.

Tribunal Chairperson John Musiime confirmed during a press briefing on Friday that the tribunal has so far received 381 petitions challenging the conduct and outcome of the parliamentary flag bearer elections. The complaints range from vote rigging, multiple voting, violence, participation of ineligible candidates, and procedural irregularities during tallying.

“Hearings will commence on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. sharp, and we are fully prepared to handle these cases in line with the NRM Constitution, the 2025 Election Regulations, and national laws,” Musiime said.

The tribunal has been organized into eight panels of legal professionals and trusted party cadres to expedite the process. According to Musiime, all hearings and rulings are expected to be completed by September 1, 2025.

NRM’s Director of Legal Affairs, Enoch Barata, urged petitioners to serve copies of their petitions to respondents as required by the tribunal guidelines. The tribunal will also notify respondents via mainstream media, electronic communication, and phone calls.

Each party will be allowed a maximum of five people, including legal counsel, during hearings, but can submit written evidence from multiple witnesses. Morning and afternoon sessions will be scheduled in advance, and parties are advised to appear only during their designated time slots.

Musiime appealed to all candidates and supporters to remain calm and respect the tribunal process:

“The strength of the NRM lies in its ability to resolve disputes internally, through structured, principled, and evidence-based mechanisms.”

Parking will not be available at the venue, and parties have been advised to make alternative arrangements.

The tribunal emphasized its commitment to competence, transparency, and fairness, promising that all decisions will be based strictly on evidence and the law.
