The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has dismissed allegations that it is bankrolling the growing number of presidential aspirants collecting nomination forms from the Electoral Commission (EC) ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Speaking at the EC headquarters on Wednesday, NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong, accompanied by the party’s First National Vice Chairperson, Al-Haji Moses Kigongo, said they were at the commission to pick nomination forms for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the party’s flag bearer.

“The forms we have picked are for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to contest for the presidency in the 2026 general election,” Todwong said.
Responding to claims that the ruling party was funding some of the aspirants to crowd the race, Todwong was categorical: “We don’t behave like that. We face our challenges head-on. Whoever has come to pick these forms, we don’t even know who they are. We are concentrating on our candidate.”
He hinted at fresh campaign strategies, noting that the party would unveil “many new things” to match changing societal dynamics when the campaign season officially begins.
Todwong also remarked on the unprecedented number of aspirants, describing it as both “a tragedy” and “a credit” to the NRM. “It’s a credit to NRM that the presidency has been made simple and easy, that everybody admires the way the president handles issues. If the president wasn’t handling that office well, many would not aspire to it,” he said.
President Museveni’s team joins over 100 individuals and five political parties that have so far picked nomination forms for the presidency, setting the stage for a fiercely contested 2026 race.
