The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has stated that its presidential candidate will not take part in the televised presidential debate announced by NTV Uganda, saying the event was never part of the official campaign programme approved by the Electoral Commission (EC).
In a statement released on Thursday, the party dismissed an advert circulating on social media suggesting President Yoweri Museveni would join other presidential aspirants in the debate.

The NRM said it only received an invitation from NTV on 21 November 2025, long after the EC had issued the official campaign schedule for all candidates.
According to the party, the organisers did not consult the candidates beforehand, and the proposed debate does not appear anywhere in the EC-sanctioned programme.
“Such a debate was neither brought to the prior consideration of the candidates nor included in the EC-approved programme. Our Presidential Candidate is therefore not preparing to participate in any such debate,” the statement read.
NTV had not issued a reaction by press time.
