The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has begun issuing notification letters to its confirmed flag bearers, a move that signals intensified preparations for the 2026 general elections.
Dr. Tanga Odoi, chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission, announced the development on Monday, urging all successful candidates to pick up their letters from the party’s Electoral Commission headquarters at Plot 13, Kyadondo Road in Kampala.

“Starting today, from 8am to 5pm, all nominated flag bearers are expected to collect their letters. These letters are a critical step in affirming your status as the party’s official candidate,” Odoi explained.
The documents not only serve as proof of endorsement by the NRM but will also be required in the next stage of nominations before the national Electoral Commission. Party officials noted that hundreds of candidates are expected to flock the commission offices over the course of the week.
The exercise comes on the heels of the NRM’s recently concluded internal elections, which saw President Yoweri Museveni reaffirmed as the party’s national chairman and unopposed presidential flag bearer for the 2026–2031 term.
Odoi stressed that the notification process reflects the party’s commitment to transparency and order as it consolidates its structures ahead of the polls. He further appealed to flag bearers to adhere to the collection schedule, saying discipline and unity remain central to the NRM’s electoral strategy.
