The Democratic Party (DP) President as well as the minister for justice and constitutional affairs Norbert Mao has lashed out at his critics for joining the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) thus deviating from the party’s goal of taking power.
Mao says the Democratic Party is bigger than individual politicians thus urging them to focus on building the party and not individuals
He said this while speaking to the media at party headquarters in Kampala

Ever Since Democratic Party President Nobert MAO was appointed as the Constitutional Affairs Minister, a section of the party members opposed to this give birth to raised their voices accusing MAO of betraying the party.
However, the DP leader says he was not moved even though party leaders like Lulume Bayiga continue to call for his resignation as party president. BYTE
Despite the cooperation agreement, while speaking to journalists at party offices in Kampala Mao continues to insist that the democratic party is still independent and vows to participate in the 2026 general elections. BYTE
To re-affirm their independence he has presented a campaign plan to traverse the entire country to build party structures at the grassroots. BYTE
He says they will not only use this opportunity to build the party but also dialogue with the citizens to address different questions like the Buganda Question, Karamoja Question, religious and regional justice, and discrimination. BYTE
Mao also used the opportunity to attack his cronies on the back noting that this would not move him out of the track of rescuing the country. BYTE
Kennedy Mutenyu was also announced as the chairman organizing committee of the Democratic Party’s 70th-anniversary celebrations to highlight the progress of the party’s political consolidation.BYTE
