Police have confirmed that no casualties were recorded following a fire outbreak at the Kitezi Landfill on the evening of June 17, 2025.
According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the fire was reported at around 8:00 PM by members of the public and was swiftly contained by the Police Fire Prevention and Rescue Services.

“Our dedicated team was able to promptly contain and extinguish the fire. Fortunately, no casualties were registered during the incident,” said Owoyesigyire in an official statement.
While the fire has been extinguished, police cautioned members of the public to avoid the landfill area as it remains hazardous.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, and further information will be released in due course.
