Nandala Warns NUP Supporters Against Disrupting Campaigns

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi has accused supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) of attacking his campaign team in Budaka District and warned that future disruptions will be met with firm resistance.

Addressing a press conference at Mountain Inn Hotel in Mbale, Mafabi said his supporters were attacked in Kachomo Town Council, Budaka District, leaving several people injured. The incident occurred on Tuesday and has since been confirmed by police, who arrested several suspects.

Mafabi said he had forgiven those apprehended, describing the assault as their first offense, but cautioned that repeated acts of violence would not be tolerated.

“I have pardoned them this time because it’s their first mistake. But next time, we shall not tolerate violence against our people,” Mafabi warned.

He urged NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu to advise his supporters to desist from violent conduct and allow for peaceful political competition.

However, NUP supporters in the region have denied involvement in the Budaka clashes, insisting that their party remains committed to non-violence and mutual respect among opposition forces.

“Our party does not condone violence. We believe in peaceful campaigns and issue-based politics,” a NUP mobilizer said.

Mafabi emphasized that his campaign team is well-prepared to protect its supporters and ensure that FDC’s message reaches voters across the country without intimidation.

“We are ready for any attempt to disrupt our campaign. We shall defend ourselves and maintain peace,” he added.
