Namayanja Hails Museveni’s Leadership in Renewing NRM Structures Ahead of 2026 Elections

The Deputy Secretary General of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Rt. Hon. Rose Namayanja Nsereko, has commended President Yoweri Museveni for championing the reorganization and revitalization of NRM grassroots structures across the country. Speaking during a party event in Greater Mpigi, Namayanja described the newly elected local leaders as critical mobilizers for the party’s campaign machinery heading into the 2026 general elections.

Namayanja praised Museveni, who also serves as the NRM National Chairman, for his “visionary leadership” in strengthening party cohesion from the village to district level. “This renewal exercise is timely and strategic,” she said. “Our grassroots leaders are the first point of contact with the people and will play a central role in ensuring victory for the NRM in 2026.”

Reflecting on the voting trends in Mpigi and the wider region, Namayanja recalled that President Museveni secured 72% of the vote in Mpigi during the 2011 general elections, compared to 25% for his nearest rival. Following that period, Museveni supported the administrative split of the original Mpigi into three districts—Mpigi, Gomba, and Butambala. She noted continued electoral strength in 2016, when Museveni won 71% in Mpigi, 70% in Butambala, and 75% in Gomba.

Namayanja also highlighted the region’s demographic transformation, noting a rise in the voting population from 398,000 in 1996 to more than 672,000 today. “This growth is not accidental,” she said. “It reflects the impact of improved health services and social development under NRM leadership.”

Citing key government achievements, Namayanja pointed to free education through Universal Primary Education (UPE) and Universal Secondary Education (USE), better access to health care, mass immunization programs, and declining rates of communicable diseases. “President Museveni’s leadership has laid a strong foundation for the country’s development. The gains in education, health, and poverty reduction are tangible,” she remarked.

The Deputy Secretary General called on fellow party leaders to actively publicize these achievements. “We may not yet be where we want to be, but we are far better off than we were,” she noted. “It is our duty to mobilize the population and remind them of the transformation that has taken place under NRM.”

Namayanja further revealed that nearly UGX 40 billion has been disbursed to the three districts of Greater Mpigi through the Parish Development Model (PDM), a flagship government program aimed at eradicating household poverty by supporting enterprise at the parish level.

“As we approach the 2026 elections, our task as leaders is to mobilize even more vigorously,” she urged. “We must ensure that every citizen understands and appreciates the progress made under NRM.”
