Nalukoola Claims Agent Abducted, Nomination Papers Stolen

National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Elias Nalukoola has alleged that his agent was abducted, and his official nomination documents stolen just hours before the Kawempe North parliamentary by-election nomination process.

Appearing visibly distressed outside the Kawempe Electoral Commission (EC) offices, Nalukoola stated that the missing documents, including receipts for paid nomination fees, were essential for his nomination. Consequently, he was denied access to the EC offices.

“This morning has been devastating. What has happened is unacceptable. However, we will not surrender or abandon our commitment to promoting democracy in Uganda,” Nalukoola told journalists.

He further accused government operatives of orchestrating the incident and called on all peace-loving Ugandans and democracy supporters to condemn the act.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has commenced the two-day nomination exercise for the Kawempe North parliamentary by-election and the Kazo-Angola councillor seat. The process runs from Wednesday, February 26, to Thursday, February 27, at the EC offices in Kawempe, near Akamwesi Mall along Gayaza Road.

The Kawempe North seat was declared vacant following the passing of Muhammad Ssegirinya on January 9, 2025, after weeks of hospitalization. Meanwhile, the Kazo-Angola councillor position became vacant following the 2022 death of Yusuf Yakubu Kiggundu in a road accident while en route to campaign for an NUP candidate in Omoro District.

The Electoral Commission has scheduled the by-election for March 13, 2025
