“Today, the 29th of May 2025, in the afternoon, we registered a suspected murder at Naguru police barracks,” said Rusoke in a press statement. “One police constable, Muhanji Arthur, is said to have been shot and killed by his colleague, police constable Natujona Everest, who is currently on the run.”
The suspect reportedly abandoned the firearm used in the shooting and fled the scene. Security teams have since launched a manhunt to apprehend him.
“We are working to establish the motive behind the fatal shooting. Once we have him in custody, we shall be able to determine the precise reasons and any other details surrounding this tragic incident,” Rusoke added.
The Uganda Police Force has condemned the act and assured the public that internal disciplinary and criminal processes will be followed to ensure justice is served.
The motive remains unknown at this stage, but authorities have said that no stone will be left unturned as investigations continue.
This incident has sent shockwaves through the police fraternity and the wider public, raising concerns about discipline and stress management among law enforcement officers. It is not the first time such intra-force shootings have occurred, and calls for psychological support services within the police have resurfaced.
