Museveni Rallies Lango, Urges Households to Embrace Wealth Creation

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Wednesday took his campaign trail to Amolatar and Dokolo districts in the Lango Sub-region, drawing thousands of supporters who praised his leadership for delivering peace, development, and programs aimed at fighting poverty.

The rallies, part of the NRM’s 2026–2031 manifesto drive under the theme Protecting the Gains, highlighted the government’s record and future plans, with local leaders crediting Museveni for what they described as Northern Uganda’s transformation.

In Amolatar, NRM district chairperson Kamilo Olwit hailed the President for ensuring peace and stability, citing the defeat of insurgencies like the LRA and the end of cattle rustling. He also pointed to infrastructure projects such as Akii-Bua Stadium, the ongoing expansion of universities, and key road works that have connected the region.

Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, who is also the NRM Second Vice Chairperson (Female), told the rally that Northern Uganda’s progress is inseparable from Museveni’s leadership. “In the past, traveling to Soroti could take a week because of insecurity. Today, Uganda is peaceful, and people are able to work for their prosperity,” she said.

When he addressed the crowd, Museveni emphasized that while infrastructure, schools, and health centers (dongo lobo) represent development, the real battle lies in household wealth creation (lonyo). He reminded Ugandans that despite improved services, many families remain trapped in subsistence farming.

“At Independence, only 9% of Ugandans were in the money economy. Even by 2013, 68% were still outside it. That is why I brought Operation Wealth Creation and later the Parish Development Model (PDM). Today, the numbers are reducing, but everyone must join wealth creation so that poverty is defeated in every household,” he said.

The President pledged to recruit 50,000 more teachers to close staffing gaps in schools, abolish illegal school charges, and strengthen the PDM by fighting corruption, particularly theft of drugs and mismanagement of funds.

In Dokolo, Museveni announced that government would upgrade the Dokolo–Namasale road, cutting the distance to Kampala, but again stressed that infrastructure alone cannot end poverty.

“Even at my home in Baralege, I may not have tarmac roads, but I have cows, coffee, fruits—wealth. That is what we want for every homestead: wealth for food and income,” he said.

He cited testimonies like that of Apio Piki, a farmer from Lira District who used PDM funds to grow maize and later invested in livestock, transforming her livelihood. “She told me she had never handled one million shillings before, but now she has land and animals. That is the essence of the PDM,” Museveni explained.

Other NRM leaders, including Northern Uganda Vice Chairperson Hamson Obua and Secretary General Richard Todwong, rallied the communities to safeguard the peace and socio-economic progress achieved under the ruling party.

Museveni will continue his campaign in other parts of Lango, urging Ugandans to consolidate the NRM’s achievements while embracing wealth creation as the key to household and national prosperity.
