President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Hon. Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala as the new Inspector General of Government (IGG), replacing Hon. Beti Olive Namisango Kamya.
The appointment, made in exercise of the President’s constitutional powers under Article 223 of the 1995 Constitution, was announced on Tuesday. Justice Batala’s name, together with those of the Deputy IGGs Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria and Mrs. Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe has been forwarded to Parliament for vetting.

Unlike the outgoing IGG, Beti Kamya, who has been dropped, the two deputies have been retained in their positions, signaling a measure of continuity in the leadership of the anti-corruption agency.
Justice Batala, who has served in Uganda’s judiciary for years, is expected to bring a new judicial lens to the fight against corruption, strengthening institutional integrity and accountability within public offices.
Beti Kamya, a former minister and politician, was appointed IGG in 2021. Her tenure was marked by a tough stance on corruption but also drew mixed reactions from the public and civil servants, with critics accusing her of selective enforcement and political bias.
The Inspectorate of Government plays a central role in enforcing the Leadership Code, investigating corruption, and ensuring compliance with ethical conduct among public officials.
Justice Batala’s appointment comes at a time when Uganda continues to grapple with persistent corruption scandals across several government sectors, and expectations are high that her legal background will bolster the office’s independence and credibility.
Parliament’s Appointments Committee is expected to vet the new IGG and her deputies in the coming days before they formally assume office.
