President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has vowed that grievances arising from alleged malpractice in the just-concluded National Resistance Movement (NRM) parliamentary primaries will be addressed, assuring party members that “everything will be rectified.”
In a message to party members, including his trademark reference to the Bazzukulu (grandchildren), Museveni acknowledged that the primaries were “glorious” but tainted by “mistakes committed by self-seekers.” These mistakes, he noted, included altering results, bribery, and interference with voter registers.

“These actions were criminal and also distorting the politics and the law of elections,” Museveni stated, condemning the acts as contrary to the principles of the ruling party.
The President revealed that state security agencies, including the Internal Security Organisation (ISO) and Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), have already intervened by arresting suspects and preferring charges against them. However, he stressed that beyond the criminal aspect, the party must resolve the political and legal dimensions of the disputes.
“What happens to the flagbearers who were fraudulently declared? Why doesn’t Tanga Odoi change and announce the proper results?” Museveni asked rhetorically, adding that since the voting was conducted by lining up in broad daylight, it should be easy to confirm the true winners.
Museveni disclosed that party lawyers had advised that Dr. Tanga Odoi, the NRM Electoral Commission chairperson, cannot unilaterally reverse the results. Instead, the matter will be handled by the party’s election dispute tribunal, which he said would be guided by evidence already in the hands of security agencies.
“Their grievances are already being addressed. Everything will be rectified. It is just the facts and evidence that will conclude the matter,” the President assured.
Museveni signed off the statement as Yoweri K. Museveni, Ssaabalwanyi Ssemalungu, reaffirming his commitment to maintaining order and fairness within the party ahead of the 2026 general elections.
The NRM primaries, which attracted thousands of aspirants across the country, have been marred by reports of violence, voter bribery, and tampering with results, prompting widespread concerns about internal party democracy.
