First Son and Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Cedric Babu Ndilima, describing him as a “brother, close friend, and comrade in the struggle.”
In a moving message posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday morning, Muhoozi reflected on Cedric’s multifaceted life and his contributions to Uganda’s national fabric, praising his legacy in sports, business, and politics.

“I join the family of Capt. Francis Babu to mourn the passing of my brother, my close friend and comrade in the struggle, Cedric Babu, who passed away yesterday in Nairobi,” Gen. Muhoozi wrote.
He hailed Cedric as a man of many talents, pointing out his early excellence in tennis that earned him a place among Uganda’s finest players. “Cedric stood out amongst his peers. He played tennis with a skill that made him among the best that our country has ever produced,” he said.
Muhoozi noted that Cedric was equally accomplished in business and public service, applauding his decision to actively participate in Uganda’s political life—a move rarely taken by members of the country’s elite families.
“Where many children of Uganda’s elite families eschew politics, Cedric had the courage to participate in the governance of his country. He won the NRM primaries for the Kampala Central parliamentary seat in the last elections against more experienced rivals,” he said.
Though Cedric did not win the seat in the general election, Muhoozi praised his determination and optimism. “He never gave up the struggle. Cedric was an optimist, always thinking about tomorrow a better tomorrow,” Muhoozi noted.
He added that Cedric’s energy and drive were the reasons he appointed him as Vice Chairman for Kampala on the Central Committee of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), the political formation linked to Muhoozi’s ongoing mobilisation efforts.
“He was a great addition to the team, and we shall miss him immensely,” the general added.
Cedric Babu, a former president of the Uganda Olympic Committee and son of veteran politician Capt. Francis Babu, passed away on Friday evening in Nairobi, where he was undergoing medical treatment. His death came amid a public fundraising campaign to support a heart transplant.
