Mpuuga Hails Pope Francis’ Life of Humble Service and Bold Leadership

Former Leader of Opposition and Parliamentary Commissioner Mathias Mpuuga has paid glowing tribute to the late Pope Francis, describing his life as a powerful lesson in selfless leadership, courage, and humility.

Mpuuga said the pontiff’s life was one of “sacrifice that knew no boundaries,” praising his fearless voice and enduring compassion.

“I have delivered into this book this morning on the life and times of Francis,” Mpuuga said. “He was to reflect on his life of service and sacrifice the nature of sacrifice that knew no boundaries, that was capped in meekness and humility.”

The former LOP said Pope Francis leaves behind a challenge to all leaders to speak the truth even when it is risky and to pursue service that goes beyond self-interest.

“As leaders and aspiring leaders, we must not look into a mirror that only reflects our faces and aspirations,” Mpuuga stated. “We must see the common good as the true call to leadership and service.”

He praised the Pope’s courage to speak out on difficult global issues and his consistent focus on uplifting the vulnerable, framing his papacy as both “useful” and “fruitful.”

Mpuuga took the opportunity to urge fellow leaders to embrace Pope Francis’ legacy not just as a memory, but as a model for action. “That’s for me his legacy, and I’m here to praise the Lord for a life useful, a life fruitful that he has lived,” he said.
