The arrests, carried out by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit in coordination with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), also netted Mr. Kirumira Fredrick, the Chairperson of the District Service Commission, and Ms. Nakamoga Sarah, the Commission’s Secretary.
According to the Anti-Corruption Unit, the suspects are accused of demanding and receiving bribes ranging between UGX 50,000 and UGX 15 million from job applicants seeking positions in the district’s public service.
Their arrest follows a directive issued by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni during his recent monitoring tour of the Parish Development Model (PDM) in the Greater Mpigi area. During a public interaction on June 17, 2025, local journalists raised red flags about rampant corruption in the district’s recruitment process, prompting the President to call for immediate investigations.
“It was reported that positions were being sold to the highest bidder, undermining merit and denying qualified candidates an equal opportunity for public employment,” a statement from the Anti-Corruption Unit read.
