By Kampala Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Shamim Malende, has been urgently airlifted to Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, following a sharp deterioration in her health condition, reliable sources have confirmed.
The legislator, a prominent human rights lawyer and fierce advocate for political prisoners, has been in and out of St. Francis Hospital Nsambya in Kampala over the past few months battling what medical professionals have described as a “strange and persistent illness.”

Sources close to her family revealed that Malende’s condition worsened this week, prompting her medical team to recommend immediate evacuation for specialized testing and advanced treatment unavailable locally.
Her illness is believed to stem from injuries sustained during a chaotic incident in Parliament last year, when security operatives stormed the plenary chambers during heated debate over the controversial Coffee Bill. Malende, among other opposition MPs, was reportedly physically assaulted in the fracas an event that marked the beginning of her ongoing health complications.
“Doctors at Nsambya Hospital, after multiple admissions and attempts at stabilization, finally referred the case for further critical medical evaluation in Nairobi, citing limited diagnostic capacity for the chronic symptoms she presented.” Close family member stated
