MP Lokwang Expresses Disappointment As A Student He Sponsored Turns Political Rival

Hillary Lokwang, the Member of Parliament for Ik County in Kaabong District, has expressed disappointment and surprise after one of the students he sponsored through education announced plans to run against him in the 2026 general elections.

Lokwang, who has been highlighting his achievements over his past nine years, including providing TVs and solar panels, iron sheets for semi-permanent housing, and sponsoring students’ education, felt betrayed by the student’s decision.

“I had to install TVs, solar panels, and buy TVs for Ik County because we don’t have power there. I did this to open the eyes of the people, to show them how other places have developed,” Lokwang explained, highlighting his efforts to develop his constituency.

He also noted that he lobbied for scholarships from development partners, which enabled Ik students to attend university.

“By the time I came to Parliament, I was the only Iki with a degree in 2015. Now, we have others who have degrees, and some are even working with the Local Government.” my efforts have transformed Ik County, with over 1,000 houses now having iron sheets and local centers growing with businesses. “We didn’t have sodas, beers, or other essentials in our shops before, but now they’re readily available nearby.”

However, Lokwang’s pride and joy were dampened by the news that one of his former beneficiaries had turned against him.

“One of my students, whom I took to Ishaka Campus and recommended for State House Scholarships, is now coming to compete with me. I’m proud to be a role model, but I’m disappointed that he has chosen to run against me.”

Lokwang remains confident, saying, “I’m ready for the challenge,” but his disappointment is noticeable.
