The Kampala Archdiocese is in mourning following the passing of Monsignor Expedito Magembe, a revered priest of Mt. Sion Bukalango, who died on Thursday, May 9, 2025.
In an official statement issued by the Chancellor of the Archdiocese, Fr. Pius Male Ssentumbwe, the death was confirmed on behalf of His Grace Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere. The Archdiocese expressed “profound sorrow” at the loss of one of its most respected clergy.

“Monsignor Magembe has departed from this life today on 9th May 2025,” read the letter addressed to all priests, religious, and the faithful within the Archdiocese. “Burial arrangements will be communicated in due course. We kindly request your prayers for the repose of his soul.”
Monsignor Magembe was widely known for his spiritual leadership and pastoral ministry at the Mt. Sion Bukalango retreat center, a well-known Catholic pilgrimage site in Wakiso District. Over the years, he was instrumental in evangelization efforts and became a key figure in charismatic renewal movements within the Catholic Church in Uganda.
The Archdiocese has asked the faithful to join in prayers for the repose of his soul as final rites and burial plans are arranged.
