Molly Katanga- Presented Evidence Cast Doubt Whether She Murdered Her Husband

The highly publicized Katanga murder trial resumed on Tuesday 1st April 2025 with surprising testimony from the Police Ballistics Expert and 11th State Witness.

As the trial progressed, the defense lawyers highlighted discrepancies in forensic results from two identical swab samples, labeled M2 and M3, which yielded different results.

The Police Ballistics Expert, Nasawali, testified that, given Molly Katanga’s injuries, including the head injury, it was highly unlikely that she could have shot her husband. However, Nasawali admitted that he couldn’t definitively rule out the possibility of suicide.

During the previous cross-examination, When Nasawali was questioned about the single bullet that killed Henry Katanga, he stated that it was unreasoned to conclude that it wasn’t a suicide without further evidence.

The defense also challenged Nasawali’s appointment as a forensic expert, citing Section 43 of the Trial and Indictments Act, which requires such appointments to be made by the minister through a statutory instrument. Nasawali admitted that he didn’t possess such an appointment, leading the defense to urge the court to dismiss all his expert evidence.

The prosecution requested an adjournment until tomorrow 2nd April 2025 to re-examine their witness, as tensions between the defense and prosecution escalated.

The Katanga murder case has been ongoing for several years, with Molly Katanga denying any involvement in her husband’s death. The case has garnered significant public interest, with many following the trial’s developments closely.
