“The suspect resisted arrest and stabbed the guard twice on the head, leaving him seriously injured,” said ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police.

Ahamed’s cries for help reportedly attracted members of the community, who responded, subdued the suspect, and assaulted him to death before police arrived. The deceased, identified only as Julius, aged about 30, was taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Scene of crime officers from Kawempe Division visited the area, recorded witness statements, and recovered exhibits to support the ongoing investigations.

Owoyesigyire condemned the mob action, warning that such acts frustrate criminal investigations and amount to murder.

“Police strongly condemn acts of mob justice and urge members of the public to always hand over suspects to the nearest police authorities for proper legal action,” he said.

Police have launched inquiries into both the assault on the guard and the killing of the suspect.
