According to the Rwizi Regional Police spokesperson, the body of the deceased was discovered following a report filed by veterinary doctor Karegyeya Brighton, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
A team of officers from the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), the scene-of-crime officers, and canine handlers responded to the call. Honey, a police sniffer dog, played a pivotal role in the investigation after leading detectives from the scene to a residence belonging to Namutebi Jolly. There, officers recovered blood-stained clothes linked to one of the suspects, 19-year-old Byamukama Javira Mawuruba, a casual worker.
Upon interrogation, Byamukama reportedly confessed to the killing and implicated 30-year-old Kembabazi Winnie—sister-in-law to the deceased—as the mastermind of the murder. According to police, Byamukama revealed that Kembabazi had paid him to carry out the killing, citing unresolved personal grievances.
Kembabazi was subsequently arrested and is currently in custody alongside Byamukama as investigations continue. Authorities say both suspects will face murder charges once inquiries are complete.
The motive, believed to stem from longstanding tensions between the deceased and her sister-in-law, has shocked residents of Bwizibwera, a typically quiet area in Mbarara.
