Mayiga Calls for Unity, Discipline Among Baganda in Arab Nations

The Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, has called on Baganda living and working in Arab countries to remain united, humble, and steadfast in serving the Kabaka, as he paid tribute to the late Hajjat Zarinah Nsubuga during a memorial duwa held in Muyenga, Makindye County.

The prayers were hosted by the Kabaka’s envoy to Arab nations, Hajj Abbas Harunah Nsubuga, whose late wife, Hajjat Zarinah, was remembered for her unwavering support to her husband and dedication to the Kingdom.

Addressing the gathering, Mayiga praised Baganda in the diaspora for their continued commitment to the Kingdom but cautioned against divisions and misinformation.
“Those living abroad, particularly in the Arab world, must guard against spreading falsehoods,” he said. “Work together, stay loyal to the Kabaka, and strengthen the unity that defines Buganda.”

The Katikkiro commended Hajj Abbas for his calm, disciplined service and encouraged the bereaved family to preserve unity in the face of loss.
“Unity starts at home,” Mayiga said. “Even when a family loses a pillar, what keeps it strong is togetherness and faith.”

Minister for Kingdom Affairs, Joseph Kawuki, noted that Nsubuga had continued with preparations for the upcoming Buganda convention in the Arab region despite his wife’s passing — a sign of commitment to service.

“His dedication to the Kabaka’s mission remains an example for all,” Kawuki remarked, urging subjects to rely on credible information in their engagement with Kingdom matters.

The Deputy Supreme Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Ibrahima Ntanda, also hailed Nsubuga for his humility and devotion, while Kampala Minister for Metropolitan Affairs, Minsa Kabanda, described him as “a unifier whose actions have always reflected the Kingdom’s values.”

In his remarks, Hajj Nsubuga expressed gratitude to the Katikkiro, Kingdom officials, and friends who stood by him during the mourning period.
“I thank the Katikkiro and everyone who supported me,” he said. “As Baganda, especially Muslims, let us speak truthfully about the Kingdom and support the Kabaka’s vision with integrity.”

Scholars who addressed the gathering emphasized discipline, unity, and family cohesion. Sheikh Abdul Haphizu Walusimbi of the Islamic University in Mbale reminded attendees of the importance of empowering women in family life, while Sheikh Yusuf Mutimba urged children to continually pray for their departed parents.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Muhammad Mubiru reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the long-standing relationship between Islam and the Buganda Kingdom — a legacy, he said, they were proud to continue.

The duwa attracted several dignitaries, including Minister for Agriculture and Animal Resources Amiisi Kakomo, Kabaka’s Representative in Ankole Mutaasa Kafeero, Ivan Mukasa, Rashid Lukwago, and other leaders from both the Kingdom and the Muslim community.
