By The Ugandan government has embarked on a massive recruitment drive, aiming to hire 2,821 teachers and non-teaching staff for 91 seed schools across the country. This move is part of the Uganda Government Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers program (UGIFT) and is expected to boost the education sector ahead of the new school term.
According to Rev. Prof. Dr. Samuel Luboga, chairperson of the Education Service Commission, the application process began on December 23, 2024, and will close on January 10, 2025.
“The schools have been organized in 10 clusters to ease access to the application submission process by the eligible teaching and non-teaching staff,” Prof. Luboga explained.
Each school will recruit 31 staff members, including seven graduate science teachers and seven arts teachers. Additionally, 364 diploma-holding science teachers and 455 diploma-holding arts teachers will be recruited. Non-teaching staff, including bursars, library assistants, and laboratory assistants, will also be hired, totalling 547 staff members.
The Education Service Commission has set aside shs1.3 billion to facilitate this exercise, which will cover allowances and transportation costs for staff traveling to the application receiving centres.
Dr. Asuman Lukwago, secretary of the Education Service Commission, emphasized the importance of meeting the deadline for the new school term. “We will require shs1.3 billion to carry out this exercise,” Dr. Lukwago said.
Applicants are encouraged to submit their applications personally to the designated receiving centers, located in Gulu, Arua, Soroti, Mbale, Kololo in Kampala, Hoima, Fort Portal, and Mbarara.
Officials from the Education Service Commission urged teachers to personally take their applications to the various centres.
