The president general of the Democratic Party(DP) and Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Hon. Nobert Mao has refuted allegations that he has connived with Secretary General Gerald Siranda Blacks, planning to impose exorbitantly increased nomination fees for candidates intending to take up leadership positions within the party.
According to the circulating information purportedly from a source close to the party’s top organs, nomination fees for the party president position are to be increased from 5 million shillings to 20 million shillings while for the secretary general and subordinate positions increased from 3 million to 10 million and 15 million respectively.
Addressing the media at the party headquarters on Tuesday 1st April 2025 party president Nobert Moa brushed off these allegations asking the party members and the public to treat it with contempt. Mao questioned the essence of charging 50 million nomination fees and yet they are on a course of rebuilding the party
“Even the electoral commission does not charge 50 million, I would also not pay 50 million” Mao stated
Mao explained that the position of the president has a fee given its magnitude in the party, unlike other positions. He adds that in the event there must be amendments to the nomination fees, the president and the secretary general have no powers to effect that.
” We are daily begging people to come and lead the party why would we make money stand in their way and in any way why would we make money stand in their way.” Mao said
Additionally, Moa warned that the party will not abide by any endeavours by individuals who want to create disorder within the party. He rallied party members to participate in the upcoming structural elections.
