A man has reportedly been shot in both legs on Thursday afternoon in Bukolooto, Kayunga District, as he waved at National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu as his convoy headed to the first rally of the day.
The incident was revealed by NUP spokesperson and Leader of Opposition in parliament Joel Ssenyonyi, who posted a video footage on his X platform, describing the shooting as “madness at another level altogether.” He said the victim had been standing at a distance, cheering the candidate, when he was shot.

Details about the shooter, circumstances surrounding the incident, and the victim’s condition remain unclear, but NUP leaders have blamed security forces for what they call escalating violence during the campaign period.
According to the Electoral Commission’s presidential campaign roadmap, Kyagulanyi was scheduled to campaign in Kayunga District today as part of his ongoing nationwide campaign trail.
