A man suspected of producing counterfeit Numa packaging materials has been charged with trademark infringement and remanded to Luzira Prison until December 8, following his appearance before the Makindye Utility Court this afternoon.
Kasoma Robert Sserumaga was arrested on November 14 in Kampala in a joint operation involving the State House Investors Protection Unit (SHIPU), the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), and the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID).

According to investigators, Kasoma is alleged to have coordinated with accomplices on Nasser Road to manufacture duplicate packaging materials for Numa Products. Authorities say they are still establishing the intended distribution and the extent of the counterfeit goods.
SHIPU, led by Col. Edith Nakalema, said the prosecution reinforces the government’s commitment to protecting investors and ensuring a safe business environment. The unit noted that counterfeiting undermines genuine manufacturers, distorts the market, and puts consumers at risk.
Officials have vowed to intensify operations against counterfeiters to safeguard Uganda’s investment climate.
