Mafabi Questions Why Most Moneylenders ‘Come From One Region’ as He Rallies Kaliro Crowd

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi has accused moneylenders of “draining Ugandans of their hard-earned money,” questioning why, in his view, many of them appear to operate from one region of the country.

Addressing supporters in Kaliro Town, Mafabi said Ugandans were being suffocated by high taxes and predatory lending practices, blaming the government for what he described as a deliberate economic imbalance. He pledged to reduce taxes and halt what he called wasteful spending on political publicity.

Mafabi promised to offer motorcycles to boda boda riders at UGX 2 million, payable over five years at UGX 400,000 per year. He also said Uganda’s education system would be reformed, noting that UPE is a World Bank initiative and not a presidential gift. Under his government, he said, teachers would receive better pay, decent accommodation, and free education for their children up to university.

On healthcare, Mafabi pledged to equip all facilities with essential machines and medicines, saying no Ugandan should ever be referred abroad for treatment. He added that senior citizens aged 65 and above would receive a monthly stipend of UGX 65,000.

He also said his government would provide seed capital to small businesses, with taxes imposed only after growth, and promised to reduce electricity prices while ensuring universal access. Mafabi criticised the current administration for extending resources to foreign countries, alleging that President Museveni prioritises roads and electricity exports over domestic needs.
