Mafabi Hits at Museveni as He Seeks Support in Nwoya

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi has urged residents of Purongo Town Council in Nwoya District to rally behind his bid to “correct the ills” he says have been imposed on the country by the current government.

Speaking during a campaign stop, Mafabi told voters that Uganda’s persistent poverty was a product of deliberate policy failures under the NRM administration, arguing that only his team had a credible plan to rebuild essential sectors.

“We understand the pain you are going through because of the poverty imposed on us deliberately,” Mafabi said. “We want to assure you that it is only us with a better plan to correct the ills our country is suffering from.”

Mafabi pledged sweeping reforms in the health sector, saying an FDC-led government would upgrade all major facilities.

“All referral hospitals will become national hospitals and all Health Centre IVs will become district hospitals,” he said, adding that the country’s health system had been weakened by years of underfunding and mismanagement.

In a direct swipe at President Yoweri Museveni, Mafabi questioned why the incumbent continues to spend heavily on posters and billboards after nearly four decades in power.

“I am surprised that President Museveni has continued to print posters and put up billboards,” he said. “This is wastage of your money because all these will expire on January 15 next year. Why is he advertising himself yet he has been here for 40 years?”

Mafabi also revisited the long-standing issue of human-wildlife conflict around Murchison Falls National Park, accusing the government of failing to implement the 2004 electric fencing project intended to protect farmers’ crops.

“We passed a loan for electric fencing so that animals stop crossing to destroy your crops, but someone else ate this money,” he claimed. “Give me a chance so that I work on the issue.”

He dismissed government promises to compensate affected households with five cows each, calling it unrealistic.

“When you compute this, you get about 2 million cows. Tell me, which farm in Uganda has even one million cows?” Mafabi asked. “This is a lie being used to blindfold you. After elections, they will say you are useless.”

The long-serving Budadiri West legislator urged voters to consider next year’s election as an opportunity to usher in a new leadership focused on service delivery and accountability.

“We come to you seeking your support so that we can put right our country,” he said.

Mafabi continues his West Nile and northern region campaign trail as he positions himself as a top challenger in the 2026 presidential race.
