While campaigning in Kalangala District, Nandala said Uganda’s justice system has been weakened by political interference, resulting in prolonged detentions and delayed court processes. He pointed to the continued incarceration of opposition figures as a sign of deep-seated institutional failure.
Nandala pledged to strengthen the Uganda Human Rights Commission and enhance the independence of the judiciary, saying his administration would prioritise accountability and professionalism within the justice sector.
He said his government would audit pending court cases and judgments to eliminate case backlogs and improve efficiency, arguing that timely justice is essential for social stability and economic growth.
Beyond governance, Nandala focused on the economic challenges facing fishing communities on Lake Victoria. He promised to supply fishermen with modern fishing gear and ensure improved security to curb theft of equipment, which he said has become rampant in the region.
Nandala questioned the effectiveness of current security arrangements on the lake, including the role of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces, saying fishermen continue to suffer losses despite heavy deployment.
He said his government would also create better market access for fish products, aimed at increasing incomes and improving living standards in island districts such as Kalangala.
The FDC presidential candidate toured Buggala Island and other parts of Kalangala District, urging residents to back his bid as part of what he described as a broader push to reform governance and revitalise local economies.
