Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has confirmed that the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) has finalized its registration process, marking a significant milestone for the political party that emerged from a faction of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
Speaking on Monday, Lukwago announced that all legal requirements under the Political Parties and Organizations Act have been fulfilled. He emphasized that the only remaining step is the publication of a notice in the Uganda Gazette by the Electoral Commission (EC), as stipulated in Sections 7 and 8 of the Act.

“We finalized the process of registering PFF,” Lukwago stated, adding that he personally contacted Justice Simon Byabakama, Chairperson of the EC, to confirm the party’s status. “To remove any doubt, I called Justice Byabakama,” he said, underscoring the urgency of confirming PFF’s registration.
The PFF, which began its registration journey in August 2024, faced initial hurdles, including concerns from the EC about the party’s name and color scheme resembling those of existing political entities. After addressing these issues, the party submitted the required documents, including signatures from supporters across the country, in November 2024
With the registration process functionally complete, Lukwago is urging supporters to commence nationwide mobilization. “If PFF is a flight, we are on the runway and once we are on the runway, no turning back. The only thing you have to do is take off,” he said. He also encouraged the party’s leadership to proceed with recruitment efforts across the country.
