In a statement shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Ssenyonyi confirmed that he had submitted a written request to the IGG on April 29, calling for a thorough investigation into what he described as a “surreptitious payment” of public funds to MPs.
“Initially some called it street talk, others said I should apologize to MPs for ‘telling lies’ about them, while others even threatened court action against me,” Ssenyonyi noted. “With time, there’s been numerous confirmations regarding this money, including a Member of Parliament who has confirmed on TV that he received it.”
The letter calls on the IGG to urgently establish the source of the funds, the circumstances under which the money was released, the total number of MPs who received the payment, and the intended purpose of the disbursement. Ssenyonyi raised concerns about the legality and accountability of the transaction, stating that “such an unexplained payment is not only unethical but potentially illegal.”
In his petition, Ssenyonyi referenced prior calls by the IGG encouraging citizens to report suspected corruption and provide actionable leads for investigation. “I am simply putting her to the test in that regard,” he added, under the hashtag #KeepingTheGovtInCheck.
