By The Ministry of Local Government has equipped communication officers in local governments with laptops, in a move aimed at strengthening public engagement and improving service delivery.
Permanent Secretary Ben Kumumanya, speaking at a meeting of Local Government Communication Officers, urged the officers to proactively communicate government programs and interventions to the public, emphasizing that effective communication is key to transparency, accountability, and citizen participation.

“The role of communication is strategic in ensuring that citizens are well informed about government policies, programs, and development initiatives implemented at the local government level,” Mr. Kumumanya said.
During the meeting, Mr. Kumumanya presided over the handover of laptops, highlighting that the equipment will enhance efficiency, timeliness, and accuracy in information dissemination. He noted that the laptops were provided in fulfillment of a pledge made at last year’s Communication Officers’ meeting, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to equipping officers with the necessary tools to execute their mandate effectively.
He encouraged the officers to use the equipment responsibly and creatively to strengthen public engagement and promote a positive image of government service delivery nationwide.
Closing the meeting, Mr. Kumumanya also stressed the importance of sharing local government job adverts to attract potential candidates, aiming to address unemployment and fill vacant positions across districts.
