The accused, Andrew Obam, an advocate and sole signatory of Loi Advocates, appeared in court following investigations by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
Prosecution alleges that between October 2022 and September 2024, Obam conspired with Kaliisa David, who served as Prof. Kanyeihamba’s driver, to fraudulently obtain over USD 56,500 from the retired jurist. The funds were reportedly stolen using forged cheques and subsequently wired into the law firm account of Loi Advocates.
Kaliisa is said to have stolen the cheques from the professor, which Obam then allegedly used to move the funds into the firm’s account. Authorities say Obam knowingly handled the proceeds of crime through his firm.
