The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Affairs, Rebecca Kadaga, has received the prestigious Africa Women’s Good Governance Award in Marrakesh, Morocco, in recognition of her enduring commitment to transparency, integrity, and leadership in public service.
The award, presented during a high-profile continental event, celebrates Kadaga’s decades-long contribution to public administration, particularly her groundbreaking role as the first female Speaker of Uganda’s Parliament—a position she held for two consecutive terms.

In a post shared on her official X platform, Kadaga expressed gratitude and dedicated the award to her constituents, the Uganda Association of Women Lawyers (FIDA Uganda)—with whom she helped establish the country’s first legal aid clinic—and to her parliamentary colleagues across four legislatures.
“I dedicate this award to my electorate, FIDA Uganda, the MPs of the 7th to 10th Parliament, CWP (Africa and International), and the IPU, where we broke barriers in women’s representation,” Kadaga wrote.
She also acknowledged her work with the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, where she has played a leading role in championing women’s involvement in political leadership and decision-making.
Organizers hailed Kadaga’s distinguished leadership record, applauding her for steering Parliament with a focus on accountability and for being a tireless advocate for women’s empowerment and democratic governance, both in Uganda and across Africa.
The event was graced by dignitaries from across Africa and the diaspora, including Hajia Aishatou, First Lady of Yobe State; Ms. Adesoji of Michigan State University; Kano State Governor Moses Silesia; and Nigerian political figure Alhaji Kabir Yusuf.
