Joseph Kabuleta, president of the National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED) party, has rubbished his purported suspension, describing it as a “null and void clown show” orchestrated by a group of party officials he claims had no constitutional authority.
Kabuleta who unveiled his official campaign poster for the upcoming presidential elections insisted that he remains the rightful president and chief spokesperson as per the party constitution, dismissing a press release issued by the party’s National Spokesperson Moses Matovu announcing his 90-day suspension.
“No one but the party president has the authority to convene a National Executive Committee meeting, let alone chair it,” Kabuleta said. “I did not call for such a meeting, nor did I delegate anyone to do so. Any resolution from that gathering is constitutionally invalid.”

A press release issued on 1st August, Matovu accused Kabuleta of multiple violations including self-declaration as presidential flag bearer without NEC approval, tribalism, expulsion of NEC members without due process, and operating a parallel party faction. It further questioned his use of unverified funds and referred to his alleged derogatory remarks about party members from Lubaga.
But Kabuleta, visibly unfazed, scoffed at the allegations, insisting that the constitution inherited from the party’s original formation in 2005 remains the guiding document, and according to it, the president is also the chief spokesperson.
“From this moment on, I resume all spokesperson duties. Any communications claiming to be official from other individuals are illegitimate,” he declared, adding that even the press had been quick to publish a “baseless suspension” without confirming facts from him.
Kabuleta further accused some unnamed party members of staging the move to create internal chaos, potentially for external gain. He alleged the NEC meeting was not only illegal, but also driven by a group with ulterior motives.
“Where have you ever seen a party spokesperson suspending a president? That’s like Ofwono Opondo suspending President Museveni,” he said
Kabuleta reaffirmed his commitment to leading the party and the country.
“I remain the president of the National Economic Empowerment Dialogue. I am not suspended. I am not going to be suspended. I will be the next president of this country,” he declared.
