Kabuleta Accuses FDC’s Nandala of Plagiarizing Gazetted Campaign Slogan “Money in Your Pocket”

Kabuleta Accuses FDC’s Nandala of Plagiarizing Gazetted Campaign Slogan “Money in Your Pocket”

The President of the National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED), Joseph Kabuleta, has accused Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential flag bearer Nathan Nandala Mafabi of plagiarizing his party’s official campaign slogan: “Money in Your Pocket.”

Addressing journalists on Tuesday, Kabuleta claimed that the slogan, which has been central to NEED’s political messaging, was officially gazetted by the Electoral Commission and therefore legally belongs to his party.

“It has come to our knowledge that our slogan ‘Money in Your Pocket’ is being plagiarised by FDC’s Nandala Mafabi. That slogan was gazetted as the official NEED slogan by the Electoral Commission. Nobody has the right to jump on it and claim it,” Kabuleta said.

“We’ve asked the Electoral Commission to compel Nandala Mafabi to withdraw the slogan from his campaign materials and use something original. He can say anything else, but not what legally belongs to NEED,” Kabuleta stated.

He dismissed suggestions that Mafabi’s slight variation “Money in our Pockets” was different, insisting that both carry the same meaning and therefore infringe on NEED’s gazetted phrase.

“Whether it is ‘pocket’ or ‘pockets,’ the message is the same. And legally, that is still a violation,” Kabuleta said.

The Electoral Commission has not yet issued an official response to the complaint. However, the development is likely to escalate tensions between opposition parties as the race to 2026 gains momentum.
