Police in Ntungamo District have arrested three suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of Naekeree Kedress, a resident of Butare Ward, Kauhunga Sub-county, whose body was found hanging in front of her home.
The breakthrough in the case came with the help of a police sniffer dog named Yudah, which led detectives from the crime scene to the home of Mercy, the deceased’s daughter-in-law. Mercy was subsequently arrested and has since implicated three other individuals in the murder.

According to police, the victim had been staying with her grandson, who reported that two men entered the home, grabbed and strangled his grandmother before staging the scene to appear as a suicide by hanging.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers deployed the K9 unit. Yudah picked up a scent from the body and tracked it for approximately one kilometre, leading officers directly to Mercy’s residence.
In her initial statement to police, Mercy confessed to being involved and named three accomplices. Two of them have since been apprehended, while the third remains at large.
Police have launched a manhunt for the remaining suspect and pledged to ensure justice is served.
Investigations are ongoing.
