Jackson Bogere Sets Sight On Kigulu South Seat –“One Term Is Enough To Deliver”

Aspiring Member of Parliament Jackson Bogere has vowed to unseat long-serving Kigulu South MP, Hon. Milton Muwuma, in the 2026 general elections, promising to deliver practical and people-centred leadership to a constituency he says has been neglected for too long.

Bogere, who is contesting as an independent candidate, said his decision was inspired by the overwhelming demand from the people of Kigulu South who are tired of empty promises and a lack of tangible development.

“The people have spoken. They want a leader with an independent mind, someone who is not caught up in political wars and who can speak for them on the floor of Parliament,” Bogere said.

He accused Hon. Milton Muwuma, who has served for 15 years under the NRM ticket, of failing to represent the true interests of the constituency.

“Our schools are in a sorry state, healthcare services are virtually non-existent, and the youth are unemployed with no guidance or support. There’s no presence of leadership, no accountability, and no plan for the future,” Stated Bogere

He outlined his plans to uplift the region, starting with revamping the education system. Bogere said he will ensure that all government schools in Kigulu South receive adequate funding and infrastructure, and that district education officers are held accountable for service delivery. He also plans to establish two fully equipped community hospitals to provide affordable health care to residents who currently must travel long distances for treatment.

“We don’t have any fully functional health facility Someone has to move from Nakigo, someone has to move from Nakalama, someone has to move from Nawaningi, to go to Nakavule. It is only Nakavule Regional Referral Hospital that is accommodating more than 500 people–What is the role of the MP? Bogere questioned.

Addressing the region’s rising youth unemployment, Bogere said his leadership would focus on vocational training by setting up skilling centres in each sub-county. These centres will train youth in trades such as tailoring, welding, bricklaying, and hairdressing, enabling them to start their own businesses and contribute to the local economy.

Bogere also announced plans to establish cooperative SACCOs across the constituency, each funded with at least Shs100 million to provide low-interest loans to individuals and groups.

“Our people need capital to start small businesses and break the cycle of poverty. These SACCOs will be a lifeline for many families,” he added.

He further cautioned voters against being influenced by handouts during campaigns, Bogere said “If someone gives you Shs10,000 to vote, they’ve bought your silence for five years. You’ve sold your voice, your children’s education, and your family’s future. He underscored the urgency to educate the people about voting for credibility, not cash. “I won’t buy votes. I want to serve, not bribe”. He added

He criticized the government’s mismanagement of agriculture in the region, particularly the sugarcane industry that once sustained many households in Busoga. He said he would advocate for modern farming methods and encourage investment in high-yield crops such as tomatoes, cabbages, and eggplants, which offer quicker returns and sustainable income.

While many of his competitors are aligned to parties, Bogere said he was responding to the people’s call to stand independently.

“Party politics have failed us. People want a representative who can speak to both the government and the opposition without bias, and lobby for services from all sides. My loyalty is to the people of Kigulu South.” He explained

Bogere also criticized recent reports that MPs allocated themselves Shs100 million each as Easter bonuses. “How can leaders give themselves money while people are dying due to lack of basic services? It’s unacceptable. We need MPs who feel the pain of their people,” he said.

He also accused Muwuma of barely contributing to parliamentary debate or defending the interests of Kigulu South in national matters.

Bogere’s journey into politics has been shaped by a life of struggle and perseverance. Raised by nearly a single mother in Iganga, He studied journalism at Victoria University and built a successful career in media before deciding to serve his people through politics. Like any other pratriotic youth, his contribution is enormous and reputably positive and well-regarded by his community.  “I grew up with nothing. No father, no wealth, no connections. I know what it means to suffer and to dream. That’s why I am committed to being the leader our people deserve,” he said.

Additionally, he assured voters that one term is all he needs to put Kigulu South in order. “Leadership is not about staying in Parliament for decades. It’s about delivering results. One term is enough for me to make a difference. I have the plan, the energy, and the people’s support. Together, we will change Kigulu South.”
