Nakawa East MP Ronald Balimwezo has declared that his quest for the Kampala Lord Mayoral seat is not about political rivalry but service delivery, pledging to tackle the city’s chronic problems of poor roads, drainage, and garbage management.
Speaking after his nomination on Thursday, Balimwezo said he was offering himself as the leader Kampala needs at a critical time.

“I am contesting for a position that very soon will be barred and therefore I’m not against any other person. I am coming and offering myself as that leader that Kampala requires now,” he said.
The legislator, who previously served as Mayor of Nakawa Division, cited his background in engineering and local government as key assets in his bid to transform Kampala. He noted that of the city’s 2,500-kilometre road network, only 600 kilometres are tarmacked, with 70 percent of those already beyond their design lifespan.
“As an engineer, I will ensure Kampala’s road network is revamped. I also trained in garbage management and have the expertise to streamline waste collection and disposal in the city,” he explained.
Balimwezo pledged to fight corruption, ensure value for money in city projects, and devolve key functions to division councils for efficiency.

“I don’t want to keep most of the work at the headquarters. Divisions will get full devolution so that they can help me carry out activities they are mandated to do,” he said.
The MP framed his candidature around humility, transparency, and fairness, insisting that Kampala deserves leadership focused on solving problems rather than political battles.
