On November 1 2025 unknow assailants wielding manchettes and machine guns attacked and struck multiple security posts across districts in the Rwenzori region, attempting to overrun installations and seize weapons. The coordinated nature of the attacks prompted a swift joint response from the Uganda Police Force, Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), and other intelligence units, leading to the neutralization of several assailants and the arrest of others.
In one of the videos circulating online on various social media platforms, an individual donned in a look alike police Kaki uniform was seen shooting a suspect who was allegedly involved in the attack.
Addressing the press at Naguru Police Headquarters, ACP Rusoke Kituuma, the Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident. “That video is under scrutiny and analysis,” he said. “Once the investigation is complete, we shall communicate the findings. For now, we urge the public to remain calm and allow the process to take its course.”

“We had a coordinated attack on a number of security installations in the Rwenzori region,” Kituuma said. “Security agencies immediately responded, and I can ably confirm that the threat was suppressed. The situation is under control.”
He revealed that the operations are ongoing, with teams conducting intensive searches and interrogations to identify and apprehend remaining suspects.
“Operations are still going on. We continue to receive daily updates. Security agencies are doing a lot of combing, and interrogations are still underway,” he explained. “We have good leads, but we ask the public to be patient as we finalize investigations.”
Kituuma confirmed that there were fatalities and injuries on both sides but declined to release exact figures, noting that verification was still ongoing.
He also condemned incidents of mob justice that occurred in the aftermath of the attacks, revealing that some suspects were lynched by residents who mistook them for rebels.
“Some people suspected others because they were found with pangas and similar implements,” he said. “But we appeal to the public not to take the law into their hands. Mob justice is not justice at all. We need suspects alive for interrogation.”
Kituuma reassured residents that the situation in the Rwenzori subregion remains stable and urged them to resume normal activities.
“Let people be calm, avoid anxiety, and continue with their daily work,” he said. “If anyone has information that can help security, please share it in confidence. We shall treat it with the confidentiality it deserves.”
He commended the public for their vigilance and cooperation, which he said played a major role in helping security forces counter the coordinated assault.
“We thank members of the public who have exhibited vigilance and worked closely with us. Such cooperation strengthens our operations and ensures peace and security for all,” he added.
Security sources say intelligence-led operations are still underway to trace the masterminds behind the coordinated attacks, as authorities continue to investigate the motive and identity of the armed group.
